Moving to Philadelphia from Washington. Any suggestions on good places to live?
We are moving to Philadelphia from WA. What are some good areas. One of the members will be working around Lancaster Ave in Philadelphia, is there a quiet area maybe 40 or 30 min outside the city area? We like the quiet neighborhood where I can take our dogs for a nice walk. Any suggestions?

- 30 or 40 minutes out gives you a lot of options. I would check out Main Line towns like Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, etc. if price is not an option. If you need cheaper digs, you can check out places like Swarthmore in Delaware County. Avoid places like Chester and parts of W. Philly, which can be quite dangerous. Good luck and welcome to Philly.
- Damn..... This is a broad question. This is the 6th largest city in the US. There are lots of places that fit the "good" title. Price varies a lot though. As far as Lancaster Ave goes? That is West Philly And covers alot of area & extends into the Main line burbs. It is close to Fairmount park, the zoo, the river drives and University City ( U of Penn, Drexel Univ.).
- If you can afford it, any of the towns around there are nice:Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Havertown, Bala Cynwyd, Ardmore, Wynnewood, Manoa, Drexel Hill. If you can't afford them, some parts of Upper Darby still are okay. If your budget only allows living in the city limits, Overbrook Park is still a half-decent neighborhood (where most people pick up after their dogs!) For a bit more money you could try Overbrook Farms. I guess living around Saint Joe's in Wynnefield could still be bearable. Except for Upper Darby, which has a hub, the public transportation in all of those areas is such that you need a car. Welcome, and good luck.
- Move to cityline ave or anywhere in the main line
- just outside of the city and a great place to look into in Manayunk. Leaving the city you should look into Bryn mar, Radnor, Devon,Paoli Good luck!
