What are some of the major social issues going on in the United States at the moment?

Can someone tell me what's going on in the US? I'm an American teenager who lives in Japan, and I want to know what's going on in my country, but it's too difficult to read the paper every single day. So... can someone please sum up a few of the major social issues? It would be best if you could tell me the social issues that are going on only in the US. You know, like not general issues worldwide.

2. I'd say number one is President Obama's plan to reform health care (which isn't really a social issue but it's been all over the news). The plan is to establish a public health care option for Americans who don't receive health insurance from their jobs or can't afford private health insurance (this public option would be comparable to the public health care available in countries like Canada, France, Great Britain...I think Japan also). The people who oppose this plan predict that mechanizing this plan will result in some problems. For instance, it would take millions of dollars to fund the public option (millions of dollars we don't have basically, which would increase the national deficit). The plan is also projected to be an alternative to private health insurance, and some analysts believe that this would result in an unfair competition within the health insurance sector. There are also "sub-debates" that can fit under the umbrella of health care reform, like its effect on the economy and whether the public health insurance should cover abortions. And there are the usuals as far as social issues go...legalization of gay marriage, marijuana, the abortion debate. Hope I was helpful. I tried to be un-biased so you can form your own opinion. :)
3. How to remove Obama, Pelosi, and the rest of the Democrat clowns out of power, without bloodshed. Maybe load them all in the car with Teddy Kennedy at the wheel, for one more drive off that bridge at Chappaquiddick.
