Management is such a hard job, can any fellow managers give me advice and knowledge from experience? From the lowliest fast food shift manager to a corporate CEO, it seems like all managers fall out of favor eventually. I work as an assistant manager at a fast-casual restaurant, and I have to take so much crap because of the failures of incompetent employees. It's winter, and our smoothie business has slowed down somewhat. As a result, we have to keep labor low to make money. Sometimes, we get barraged by customers. If we have a new or incompetent employee, we will get backlogged and into serious trouble. Of course, when customers complain, even one, I get in so much trouble. I just feel that most managers, even the best ones, fail eventually. There are so many things that are out of my control. This is just a temporary job until I can get a better one. I have a college degree, but I feel ready to be a corporate CEO after all the stress I've gone through. What's your opinion, philosophy on management?

What do you think of my idea for a new college club: AMERICAN CORPORATE HEIRS? Both my parents own major corporations, and in the last couple years, I've met many people through my parents who own other major corporations and have already offered my high management 100k+ jobs to work for them when I graduate college. I know that they are offering me these jobs for 2 reasons, 1. because I got a good education.. and 2. because of my family, I grew up in the corporate world watching how my parents conduct business on a regular basis so I have the first-hand knowledge and experience... not to mention the fact that the employer knows I come from a wealthy family already so they know I'm far less likely to be greedy or take unethical shortcuts in the corporation, unlike someone who doesn't come from much may be more of an unethical opportunist because they are doing whatever they can to climb the corporate latter whether it's good or bad. so anyway, back to my club idea. I think it would be a great idea to create a club where the members are sophisticated heirs and heiresses to major corporations from around the country for the purpose of networking with each other, giving each other major opportunities for advancing up the corporate ladder quickly through each other's connections. I think for the purpose of entering thre business world after college, this club would be a great convenience for students who grew up with the on-hand learning experience most people don't get until far later in life

Is better to enroll in the CPA now or work for at least a year in accounting and then go for it? I’ve completed a Bachelor degree in International Business and then pursued a master degree in Accounting from an Australian university, still got one semester to go. Besides, I am thinking of enrolling in the CPA Australia program but still a bit confused, because some advised me to start working in accounting for at least a year and then go after the CPA while others recommended that I start now. What do you think? (Just to mention that I haven’t got any previous accounting experience). Moreover, the CPA program is made-up of 6 segments of which 3 are compulsory and 3 could be selected out of the 9 elective segments as listed below: Compulsory segments •Reporting and Professional Practice •Corporate Governance and Accountability •Business Strategy and Leadership Elective segments •Assurance Services and Auditing •Financial Accounting •Financial Reporting and Disclosure •Financial Risk Management •Insolvency and Reconstruction •Knowledge Management •Personal Financial Planning and Superannuation •Strategic Management Accounting •Taxation Please if anyone could recommend, according to his/her own knowledge and experience, three subjects out of these 9 electives that you find appealing and rewarding for the present market? Really appreciate your help Thanks
What can you do when your job cheats you out of money and hours to where your health benefits could stop? I've been working at this retail chain bookstore for 3 years and everytime I take paid vacation time off my paycheck always excludes those days. When I notice they are cheating me out of money I go to management who says casually that they'll call HR and fix it. If I show them my cheated stub on Friday the paid days they "forgot" show up in the next Friday's paycheck. If it's later than Friday, then I have to wait 2 weeks for those extra days of paid vacation to show up in my bank account. But when the next round of paid time off comes the same thing happens and the company cheats me out of money. It seems like I am the only person they are shorting when it comes to paid time off because when I ask other staff if they've ever had this problem before then said no. Even though the paid days off aren't as much as a full 8 hour shift, it' still counts as extra money. The paychecks roll in every Friday and so when they "forget" to give me those extra paid days everytime I feel like there is something shady and illegal going on here. It's also bad b/c I have several hundred dollars in bills to pay each month and when I get a 70 dollar paycheck I fall behind in the bills. Aside from this, they keep on shorting my hours below the benefits line where if I get less than 20 hours a week for a few weeks I loose my health benefits. I've asked the boss for a few extra hours to keep my benefits and she refuses to give them to me or acts like it's a big inconvienence to give me more than 20 now. The first 2 years I've been at this place I was getting over 30 hours a week. Now they are shorting me and giving the hours to people who mess around and act up. This past month has been really bad as the people who mess around at work are getting raises and when these crazy people do something wrong or irresponsible, management takes away my hours and gives these people reward for their actions. For example, younger staff have been trying to switch shifts or call out and they know that I am responsible and work all the time. So instead of telling the managers they are changing their hours the staff goes behind their backs and asks me to switch less than 24 hours in advance. I used to not care about switchng until these irresponsible staff people started being crazy at work and got rewarded for their activities. So now instead of saying yes to switching hours behind the managers backs I don't answer these people or I make up an excuse of why I can't switch. But each time I say no to these lazy people my hours get cut and they get significantly more hours or a better reputation from the managers, I don't know why these things are going on but it seems very illegal to me or at least really immoral to run a company like this, Is there anything that can be done to solve this mess at work? Should I go to somebody higher than corporate or HR? I've been trying to find a new job and get away from these crazy people but haven't been so lucky. * Anybody who's been in a similar situation or has any sort of legal or corporate knowledge with such matters please feel free to suggest ideas: )

If Zicam works, why are there no FDA approved studies? Zicam is touted as a "homeopathic" remedy. The zinc in it is so diluted that it is hard to see how it can be of any benefit or harm. The very theory of homeopathy predates the knowledge that micro-organisms make us sick, rather it is based on a theory of "miasma" (evil spirits). Yet Zicam has its products in large drugstore chains. Do they have blackmail information on corporate management? Do they pay off somebody with money, sex, or drugs? How does it happen? Faith is the acceptance of the truth of something without evidence. Why don't I have faith?
anyone can help me to correct my personal statement? thank you!!? I am*****, a student of########### university. I am a bright student and good at communication with others. I am a mature and resourceful person. I am highly responsible and love challenges. I work hard to attain my dream. I dreamed that one day I have a warm family have a smart kid and running my own business. As you know, China has 55 minority nations. I am Korean, one of it. Last year I have a trip in Korea for 15 days. It’s a very special journey for me. Because this trip made me know a lot of history and culture of my ancestry. I have a sister 5 years older me. She is studying as a doctor in the Seoul National University. I took "Project Management" as major in the university. I choose this profession because I am very interested in studying the relationship between culture and architecture. I know that every classic building has a unique cultural background. The main task of "Project Management" is to coordinate projects in each sector. It’s demands strong ability to organize and coordinate. I understand that your university has a long tradition and history. The course I want to apply to is "International Corporate Media", I sincerely believe this course will be immensely useful and prove fruitful in the future. Being in an era of high speed communication, a corporation needs to use this field to build an excellent public image. This also ensures the safe and sustained development of a corporation. This is because Media is the “communicator” and serves as an initiator for the corporation to rule the markets. In the present scenario, competitions are not only based on products, prices and services but also on the reputation of the organization. A Company's image and brand depend much on the media. I am confident that the two realms "Project Management" and "International Corporate Media" have the same basis because both are based on the development of coordination and culture for survival. "Building" and "corporation" are the starting points for the culture. "Management" and "Media" raised the company's prospects through organization and coordination. I love to accrue knowledge in the fields of corporate structural communication and marketing operations. Those are I thought about the major of "International Corporate Media" . During my tenure of study at the University, I wish to challenge myself. If I have a chance to study in the Unites States I will live in a strange area. I will learn a lot of the west civilization there. This course will certainly fulfill all my dreams. I want to use International Corporate Media knowledge with my hard working then run my own business in the future. There are many business courses like "business management", "business marketing", just "business", "business with finance", "business psychology", "business studies", "business economics", "business information technology". Important Factors which Help in Identifying the Best MBA College in Delhi? A degree in Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is good only if it is from the best management institute that teaches the managerial brilliance and administrative cult to the students. However, with hundreds of MBA institutes coming up these days, it is not easy to identify the preeminent one. In Delhi itself, many MBA institutes have mushroomed in recent times. Some are online hubs while others are chic brick-n-mortar institutes. But, are they all worth the money you give for a good and coveted MBA degree? Here are some basic factors to help you in identifying the best MBA College in Delhi. Reputation and Brand Image You should choose the best MBA College in Delhi </a>that has earned a name for itself. In other words, the management institute should have an image of its own, a reputation, and a powerful brand. For instance, if you are looking for trade and related management, you would automatically think of Institute of Foreign Trade. If you are looking for honing your managerial skills in planning, you would naturally look forward to IIPM. Why is it so? – Primarily because, these institutes have build up a strong image for themselves. Their expertise in a particular sector has been highlighted so well in the market that youngsters don’t look anywhere but stick on to its name. Core Education To find out the best MBA College in Delhi, just check the teachers who impart managerial education in the college. Many management teachers have years of experience in the corporate sector. Some are erudite who have done years of research in management and corporate principles. The mode of teaching and its standard are also equally important. A best MBA college in Delhi would ideally invite guest lecturers for a certain period of time. During this time, students can think of their queries and get them clarified by the same lecturer. One-session meeting often becomes a burden for the students. Many institutes promote laborious learning of management. Some include only the superficial management rules. None of this work well in future as the students find these methods overwhelming to accept. Best MBA College in Delhi would seek students with certain amount of knowledge and acumen. Based on this standard, education should be carefully imparted to the students. Campus Jobs Getting a plum job that offers good pay and a satisfying work experience is a big factor that determines the best MBA College in Delhi. Placement jobs invited by the institutes must be equally reputed and branded company. Often, campus placement job is the first and last job of a student who has passed out from one of the best MBA Colleges in Delhi. In few years time, many alma maters become future holder of a prestigious company. Exposure Apart from wonderful teachers, a best MBA college in Delhi should also have up-to-date infrastructure and environment to help the students imbibe managerial tips and tricks. In this IT age, no institute can be successful without computers and the Internet. Books, CDs, and workshops too, matter a lot while selecting the best MBA College in Delhi. Price To get something as wonderful as a coveted MBA degree, one has to naturally give out a lot of money for it. The truth is that the couple of years of teaching in a management institute come with a high fee structure as well. However, keep in mind that there are many institutes who are there in the market to fleece you with your investment but give you nothing much in return. Don’t forget to ask students who have already studied in the MBA institute about the credentials of the faculty and learning that is imparted by it. Best MBA College in Delhi would clearly state how well its students have been fairing in the corporate world to help you make a clear decision right away.

Can you be a respected police officer in the CA bay area if...? PLEASE take the time to read: I have always wanted to either be a CHP or a police officer. However, I have a checkered past. I have done a lot in my life (early/mid 20's) that I am not happy about, made the wrong choices that I live with every day; mainly drugs, hanging around with losers and hurting some people that were close to me during this phase. Nothing ever violent. My concern is my drug history. I have NO record on file for doing anything wrong other than a DUI 12 yrs ago. I am an ethical and just person (I can’t even stand it when I see someone litter). I have determined I am ready for a commitment like this and I want to make a difference. I've seen a lot however... I have a friend that died about a year and a half ago because of marijuana. He was a card holder, grew plants (it was determined by SFPD he was within his legal rights for this) and someone broke into his house and shot him and his girlfriend. They still don’t know who did it. I want to make a difference. I know what drugs can do to people and how it changes lives and the community. My checkered past was 8+ yrs ago but around the time my friend passed away I smoked marijuana (1.5 yrs ago). I'm not happy about it but it is what it is. Since then my view on marijuana has changed and it’s a growing problem. I've never been a "pothead" but I am concerned about that disqualifying me. I think my experiences, knowledge, passion; street smarts and my story of completely turning myself around could make a significant difference to a community... I can make an impact on the war on drugs. I have frequently volunteered for non profit orgs like SafePlace and Social Advocates for Youth and I have a huge support base/friends including some in law enforcement and other individuals that are making a huge impact on youth our community and communities all over the world. I have two beautiful teenage daughters. I've been a single dad for 5 yrs and they have lived with me. I have a corporate background in management, great credit, great refs and I am 35 yrs old. I am also back in school to get my remaining credits before l apply with a local police dept. I'm fit, I'm passionate about good health and nutrition (which I think needs to be improved on all levels for police officers because I see way too many that are overweight) and I want to make a difference. Would I be given a chance to prove I could become a good cop? Or am I disqualified? Please respond especially if you are from the bay area. I know some dept's have different rules but I really want to work for San Jose PD.

HELP! Can you guys give me career ideas based on these parameters? Alright. Here's the deal. I'm three decades old and I need to choose a career right now. I am going to give you all the information you could possibly need to help point me in the right direction. 1. In the order of the quality most preferred, I would like to find a career that provides: - a decent salary - is recession resistant - provides real opportunity for career advancement - can be initially tranied for in 2 years or less - offers flexible scheduling options (10 hour shifts, 12 hour shifts, etc) 2. Here is my personal profile that may bar me from or better qualify me for some of the suggestions you already have in mind. - 30 years old - good driving history - no criminal history or arrests - never been terminated from a job - very poor credit (thanks to the economy and loss of work) - no illegal substance use at all or bad habits such as tobacco use - good physical condition - high school diploma and around 38 college credits via computer crime investigations - single with no dependents and no tie downs - can travel heavily 3. Here is my professional profile that overviews my past experiences. - hospitality management and servicing - corporate security director - information technology support, client and server side (eight certifications held) - some basic insurance claim experience 4. Here are other areas of strong knowledge I have acquired. - law enforcement communications and operations such as dispatching and policing - private contract security operations - debt collection - aviation including general and some commercial knowledge 5. Here are some examples of a few things I would enjoy doing. - working in or around water in warm climates - traveling - policing 6. Here are some examples of a few things I don't want to do. - nursing - taxi cab driver (hah) - retail work of any kind even at a corporate level - dentist - paramedic / emt - firefighter - postal worker - oil field worker 7. Below are ideas I have already considered but probably can not successfully pursue because of my financial circumstance (required security clearances) or my age: - faa air traffic controller - most government jobs (due to bad credit and pending balances) - US coastguard officer - full time insurance adjuster - most financial services positions Any ideas you can give me would be great. Although my financial circumstance can rule out quite a few jobs that are either financially or information sensitive, not all good careers have credit requirements. So throw me ideas that maybe I haven't thought of! Thanks guys!
Let me know ur opinion - Managerial Skills Learnt from Classroom Can Never Match Those Learnt from Experience? For •Within the confines of a class room, a student can gain knowledge by either reading through book(s)/reference material(s) and/or solve case studies. This is only bookish knowledge that cannot be regarded as experience. Also such theory is only retained for a short duration. It is transient by nature. It doesn’t create an imprint on his mind and thus doesn’t help him wade through the future endeavours. •Textbooks/reference materials/case studies provide a narrow scope for learning. They do not include all the real-life situations that organizations in today’s world face. Merely a few months curriculum cannot match the rigours faced in the real world! •Case Studies only arm the student with theoretical angles to solving the situation(s) under the scanner but when such a situation actually arises in the corporate scenario; it tests the student’s presence of mind, his managerial traits and magnitude of effectiveness. •A student learns to refrain from mixing his emotions while taking tough business decisions while on-the-job. This human aspect that is imbibed only through experience can never be taught in a class room. Against •Reference material(s)/case studies provide generic aspects of handling business situations which enable a management student to implement the possible steps listed out in them. 75% of the business situations can be handled through a refined knowledge/base of theory. •Management Institutes use a host of techniques to empower their students to get a feel of business situations. Such techniques include – Ice Breakers, Leadership/Skill/Communication/Team-Building games, Strategic Planners, Role Reversal, Doubling, Tag Teams, Mirroring, Monodrama, Shifting Physical Positions, Structured Role Playing, Built-in-tension, Shadowing, Outward-bound training, Lateral Thinking, Morphological Analysis, Gordon Technique, Attribute Listening and Cross-Cultural Training. Conclusion Although on-the-job training prepares an individual to handle real-life situations much better than what he could by just solving case studies, theoretical know-how grooms an individual to be more articulate in his approach and adds to his all-round personality. It gives him an academic certification which is much valued in today’s corporate scenario.
Why Top Companies Prefer to Hire People from MBA Colleges in Delhi? Each year top companies – both Indian and MNCs – come for campus recruitment. The most desired management candidate is hired with lucrative pay packets, incentives, and facilities. These business graduates are given immense respect that no other incumbent employee would get. Why? What’s so great about a Masters in Business Administration (MBA)? Moreover, people from MBA colleges in Delhi are the most sought-after by corporate giants. Here are some reasons to say why companies make a beeline at MBA colleges in Delhi each year to recruit the fresh graduates. Addressing the International Market MBA colleges in Delhi have special curriculum to address the international market, milieu, and competitive behavior of the people. It is essential to know the domestic market no doubt. However, all employees working in the core management team of companies should be receptive to the changes, wants, and dynamics of the international market. It is this useful knowledge that MBA colleges in Delhi instill in its pupils. The students learn managing team, product, machines, and all factors in the industry keeping in mind the international market. They also learn how to understand the human resources internationally. The same is applicable to financial prospects, and international markets. Addressing Successful Curriculum Today, management involves managing people, money, and global market primarily. One should not also forget the influence of IT that has suffused into our lifestyle. The fast life, expectations for high quality goods, high pay, and cut throat competition are some of the aspects which also influence the market. MBA colleges in Delhi offer curriculum which are currently required in today’s business. This mainly focuses on finance, human resources, and global market. The use of technology in day to day life and management of funds, foreign investments, loan management, and takeovers are elaborately taught to the pupils. As a result, companies find it convenient to expect valuable solutions from these students when they are given a similar practical problem. Addressing Communication Skills Today, IT has made way for a superb communication system. Corporate to corporate meetings are often conducted rampantly through webcam. There are video conferencing, email promotions, and chat systems which have made communication the in thing today. A lot of managerial activities can be streamlined through effective use of communication. It is how managers use their communication skills and how they exploit the communication system that a business can succeed in a competitive market. For instance, many managers succeed in their endeavor by working on social media networks, mobilizing the mass with promotional tricks, and using effective language to address issues in a meeting. MBA colleges in Delhi proactively invite guest lecturers, communication specialist, and public speakers to ensure that the students learn to manage communication skills effectively. Addressing Practical Knowledge The only flaw which a management fresher lacks is practical experience. Many business schools across India offer highly sought-after curriculum. However, what the students lack is practical knowledge that is so essential for business success. MBA colleges in Delhi especially cater to this aspect throughout the study session. There are practical hands-on applications, games, and simulation-based case studies for the students to apply their theoretical knowledge. Reputed MBA colleges in Delhi invite corporate people from time to time for interesting lectures. Additionally, there are summer camps, job-based project works to hone the managerial skills of the students. Companies hiring management fresher vie for workers who are intelligent, knowledgeable, and practical at the same time to handle the real life situations in the corporate sector. MBA colleges in Delhi address this issue in a greater depth. The portfolio of the student is packed with on-the-job learning of management techniques that also highlights the core managerial issues today. MBA colleges in Delhi have the ambience to address the needs of the corporate sector – and, that’s the reason why the students passing out from these institutes are so highly sought-after. ,

I'm trying to decide whether to pursue a MBA or concentrate more on looking into the fashion industry. I've always been heavy into art & graphics (comics, animation, grafitti, etc. always draw my attention) and drawing and designing have always come easy to me. Over the past two years the rising popularity of several lines of urban apparel (BAPE, Rocawear, Evisu, Billionaire Boys Club, etc.) as well as my love for sneaker culture have inspired me to at least look into the possibilities of a career in clothing or maybe even starting my own line. The only problem is while I have solid drawing skills, I have no knowledge of working with fabrics or anything about the manufacturing of clothes (would be willing to learn though). I wonder if this particular industry is really for a guy like me or should I just stick to the corporate world. Can someone offer any advice?
Can I Increase My IQ ? I just took an IQ test and got less than what I and others expected ..I scored 107 . I'm a computer programmer , who mostly deals with corporate data-base applications and management . Anyways ..I dont have a proper college education , I attended a technical school in the early 90s called "Devry" for a year , dropped out and started making money programming and fixing computers .. I noticed that I had to choose " I dont know " , on many questions dealing with historical facts , humanities , mathematical word problems , metrics ( how many meters in a kilometer ) ....I scored poorly in these areas , on account of lack of knowlede or information . So , I figure my IQ would be a few points higher , if I would aquire this knowledge through studying , sharpening my math skills ( which are not very good ) , history , humanities .etc ? I just took the same test , and scored 111 ....It ask some questions regarding the cold war and politics , that I knew the answer to , hence I guess these online IQ test's have a significant margin of error .. Maybe if I go back to school , I would increase that even more ..anyways , thanks for reviewing my question ...
Business or Kinesiology (Exercise Science)? I'm an undergrad trying to hone in on what major would be best in my interest. I'm a huge weight lifting enthusiast, I have some extensive knowledge of nutrition, etc. One of my biggest fears is majoring in something that will hinder what I do in the future. I am very interested in Management level positions in business/corporate settings. My family has always been strong in the business field. I feel that I would have greater success in business than I would majoring in Kinesiology. Any opinions?

How do you see Nandan Nilekani's decision of leaving Infosys and joining government? Nandan Nilekani is the face of the rise of India as a tech powerhouse. As co-founder of Infosys, he has helped transform the global software industry. In a forward to Nilekani's recently published book, "Imagining India: The Idea of a Renewed Nation," New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman writes, "Silicon Valley has Steve — as in Jobs. Seattle has Bill — as in Gates ... And Bangalore has Nandan — as in Nilekani." Bangalore-based Infosys was created by a handful of smart engineers with just $250. Its business remains strong despite the global recession. The company, which last year reported annual sales of $4.18 billion, has designed part of the wing of the Airbus A380 super-jumbo, written code for companies such as Apple and Cisco Systems, and even creates economic reports for U.S. investment banks. The 53-year-old executive, who is co-chairman of the Infosys board, swung through Silicon Valley recently. He will leave that position next month when he becomes chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)., which is similar to the U.S. Social Security Administration. According to me, this is a sign of the discussion that we often have in our coffee room and drawing room that good people should come forward and become the part of system instead of accusing system. Even though some of the literate and knowledgeable people have reached parliament through upper and lower house but that number is extremely insufficient. In such situation, we need capable to come forward and become the part of system to reform the system. We need people who have knowledge and experience not only in management but in technology can really bring reform in the system. People like Nandan Nilekani are not hungry for red light vehicle thus accepting appointment as chairman of UIDAI, is definitely for serving the nation. Leaving Infosys the organization that had built from the scratch with his hard work would not have been a easy decision for him. At this time, I can only remember of another appointment of Indian government when Indian Government appointed Sam Pitroda in 1984 as the chair person of newly formed department C-DOT. Not to forget, he started PCO system in India that brought telephone charges in India to a affordable price. There must me more such appointments but I am sure not many, that I can mention. I congratulation, Mr. Nandan Nilenkani on his decision to sacrifice his corporate life and business and coming to public life to serve the Nation. What is your view? Do you think it is right decision of the government to invite Mr. Nilenkani to join the government? And do you think it is right decision of Mr. Nelenkani to leave InfoSys and join the government? Do you think he will bring some change?

Are automotive editors misinforming the public regarding the quality level of American vehicles? Below, is an actual letter to the editor of a local newspaper in response to the editor's obvious biased views on American vehicles in general. Editor: As I watch the coverage of the fate of the U.S. auto industry, one alarming and frustrating fact hits me right between the eyes. The fate of our nation's economic survival is in the hands of some congressmen who are completely out of touch and act without knowledge of an industry that affects almost every pe rson in our nation. The same lack of knowledge is shared with many journalists whom are irresponsible when influencing the opinion of millions of viewers. Sen. Rich ard Shelby of Alabama has doomed the industry, calling it a dinosaur. No Mr. Shelby, you are the dinosaur, with ideas stuck in the '70s, '80s and '90s. You and the uninformed journalist and senators that hold onto myths that are not relevant in today's world. When you say that the Big Three build vehicles nobody wants to buy, you must have overlooked that GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. and Ford outsold Honda by 850,000 and Nissan by 1.2 million in the U.S. GM was the world's No. 1 automaker beating Toyota by 3,000 units. When you claim inferior quality comes from the Big Three, did you realize that Chevy makes the Malibu and Ford makes the Fusion that were both rated over the Camry and Accord by J.D. Power independent survey on initial quality? Did you bother to read the Consumer Report that rated Ford on par with good Japanese automakers. Did you realize Big Three's gas guzzlers include the 33 mpg Malibu that beats the Accord. And for '09 Ford introduces the Hybrid Fusion whose 39 mpg is the best midsize, beating the Camry Hybrid. Ford's Focus beats the Corolla and Chevy's Cobalt beats the Civic. When you ask how many times are we going to bail them out you must be referring to 1980. The only Big Three bailout was Chrysler, who paid back $1 billion, plus interest. GM and Ford have never received government aid. When you criticize the Big Three for building so many pickups, surely you've noticed the attempts Toyota and Nissan have made spending billions to try to get a piece of that pie. Perhaps it bothers you that for 31 straight years Ford's F-Series has been the best selling vehicle. Ford and GM have dominated this market and when you see the new '09 F-150 you'll agree this won't change soon. Did you realize that both GM and Ford offer more hybrid models than Nissan or Honda. Between 2005 and 2007, Ford alone has invested more than $22 billio n in research and development of technologies such as Eco Boost, flex fuel, clean diesel, hybrids, plug in hybrids and hydrogen cars. It's 2008 and the quality of the vehicles coming out of Detroit are once again the best in the world. Perhaps Sen. Shelby isn't really that blind. Maybe he realizes the quality shift to American. Maybe it's the fact that his state of Alabama has given so much to land factories from Honda, Hyundai and Mercedes Benz that he is more concerned about their continued growth than he is about the people of our country. Sen. Shelby's disdain for "government subsidies" is very hypocritical. In the early '90s he was the driving force behind a $253 million incentive package to Mercedes. Pl us, Alabama agreed to purchase 2,500 vehicles from Mercedes. While the bridge loan the Big Three is requesting will be paid back, Alabama 's $180,000-plus per job was pure incentive. Sen. Shelby, not only are you out of touch, you are a self-serving hypocrite, who is prepared to ruin our nation because of lack of knowledge and lack of due diligence in making your opinions and decisions. After 9/11, the Detroit Three and Harley Davidson gave $40 million-plus emergency vehicles to the recovery efforts. What was given to the 9/11 relief effort by the Asian and European Auto Manufactures? $0 Nada. Zip! We live in a world of free trade, world economy and we have not been able to produce products as cost efficiently. While the gov ernments of other auto producing nations subsidize their automakers, our government may be ready to force its demise. While our automakers have paid union wages, benefits and legacy debt, our Asian competitors employ cheap labor. We are at an extreme disadvantage in production cost. Although many UAW concessions begin in 2010, many lawmakers think it's not enough. Some point the blame to corporate management. I would like to speak of Ford Motor Co. The company has streamlined by reducing our workforce by 51,000 since 2005, closing 17 plants and cutting expenses. Product and future product is excellent and the company is focused on one Ford. This is a company poised for success. Ford product quality and corporate management have improved light years since the nightmare of Jacques Nasser. Thank you Alan Mulally and the best auto company management team in the business. The financial collapse caused by the secondary mortgage fiasco and the greed of Wall Street has led to a $700 billion bailout of the industry that created the problem. AIG spent nearly $1 million on three company excursions to lavish resorts and hunting destinations. Paulson is saying no to $250 billion foreclosure relief and the whole thing is a mess. So when the Big Three ask for 4 percent of that of the $700 billion, $25 billion to save the country's largest industry, there is obviously oppositions. But does it make sense to reward the culprits of the problem with $700 billion unconditionally, and ignore the victims? As a Ford dealer, I feel our portion of the $25 billion will never be touched an d is not necessary. Ford currently has $29 billion of liquidity. However, the effect of a bankruptcy by GM will hurt the suppliers we all do business with. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy by any manufacture would cost retirees their health care and retirements. Chances are GM would recover from Chapter 11 with a better business plan with much less expense. So who foots the bill if GM or all three go Chapter 11? All that extra health care, unemployment, loss of tax base and some forgiven debt goes back to the taxpayer, us. With no chance of repayment, this would be much worse than a loan with the intent of repayment. So while it is debatable whether a loan or Chapter 11 is better for the Big Three, a $25 billion loan is definitely better for the taxpayers and the economy of our country. So I'll end where I began on the quality of the products of Detroit . Before you, Mr. or Ms. Journalist continue to misinform the American public and turn them against one of the great industries that helped build this nation, I must ask you one question. Before you, Mr. or Madam Congressman vote to end health care and retirement benefits for 1 million retirees, eliminate 2.5 million of our nation's jobs, lose the technology that will lead us in the future and create an economic disaster including hundreds of billions of tax dollars lost, I ask this question not in the rhetorical sense. I ask it in the sincere, literal way. Can you tell me, have you driven a Ford lately?
how this is work for you? What are the attributes of a creative manager? “Openness, perceptiveness, flexibility, responsiveness, involvement, a capacity and willingness to draw out the creativity in others, a focus on possibilities, the potential of networking and other opportunities rather than procedure,” says Jane Henry, editor of Creative Management and Development ( www.sagepublications.com). Facilitation and communication skills help, and so does a participative and inclusive style of management, she adds. Henry heads the Centre for Human Resources and Change Management at the Open University School of Management in Milton Keynes, UK. A chartered psychologist with extensive consultancy experience, she is also the author of several books. Her research looks at ways in which organisations can develop their creativity and innovation and how individuals with different styles can best enhance their development over time. “Creative management is more about open perception than a route map, an attitude that is flexible enough to listen to others and respond intuitively to opportunities, secure enough to allow their staff freedom to find their own way. The right way of doing this will vary according to culture and circumstances,” explains Henry during a recent e-mail interaction with The New Manager. Excerpts from the interview: First, what is creative management? Creative management is a form of management associated with sustainable self-organisation. It is common in organisations wishing to engage the creativity of their workforce in improving products, processes and services, enhancing workforce commitment and customer/client/ staff satisfaction. Can creativity be developed in organisations? Are there clear measures of creativity that can be used, for example, in a corporate context? Creativity can be developed in organisations at the level of the individual, team, organisation and cross-organisation networks. Many people use tests of divergent thinking, i.e. how many uses can one think of for a plastic cup, as a measure of creativity. This is a very poor measure of creativity and not very helpful in organisations. Another approach measures people’s cognitive style differentiating between different ways of being creative — those who like to do things better and those who like to do things differently. Those with an adaptive preference are more likely to be more comfortable working within existing frames and improving existing products. Those with an innovative preference are naturally more inclined to challenge the status quo and aim for breakthroughs. Other measures of organisational creativity that have been used include the number of suggestions per employee and level of absenteeism, with the former increasing and the latter decreasing in creative companies. Have there been breakthrough findings in recent years about creative management? This depends on your perspective and location. In the West, creativity had been associated with innovative breakthroughs — inventing processes from scratch and glorified through individuals such as Einstein, Edison, Anita Roddick or Richard Branson. One of the changes in the West over the last quarter century is that organisations have come to appreciate the importance of engaging the entire workforce in improving processes and made clear attempts to empower the workforce to do so. Is increased competition the only driver for creative management? Definitely not; many creative people are motivated intrinsically, i.e. with a marked preference for working on areas of interest to them. Freedom as to how people engage with tasks is often a sufficient driver for people to develop a more creative approach. Humans are naturally very creative so long as they feel safe enough and engaged enough to bother to try out new ways of doing things. Organisational bureaucracy can sometimes get in the way of these natural instincts. What is the role of tacit knowledge in organisational creativity? Tacit knowledge is central to creativity, organisational or otherwise. Cognitive science has shown clearly that we know things long before we realise we do or are able to explain how we know. Creative ideas generally emerge tacitly, when people are relaxed. Organisations where people feel a measure of freedom, rather than those that are committee-bound and where people feel obliged to look busy, are more likely to be safe enough for people to feel able to explore the half-baked tacit notions that develop into new creative ideas with a bit of nurturing. Many processes that attempt to encourage creativity in groups use processes that aim to tap into tacit ideas. Are there lifestyle features that are associated with creativity? The socially-embedded do indeed generally report themselves as happier than the more isolated amongst us. There is some work to suggest that those in a positive mood find it easier to make more associations and that these broad associations make it easier for them to be more creative. The creatively-fulfilled tend also to be happier, not the least as their work offers meaning and often purpose. Does creativity run the risk of turning into ‘spin’ or manipulated messages one finds so commonly used by politicians to their advantage? Creativity is an essential component of human advancement through the ages. Currently it has extra kudos in the UK for example, as politicians wonder if other organisational sectors can build on the success of the creative industries (pop music, fashion, design and so on). ‘Cool Britannia’ seems to be a successful spin building on aspects of creative life in the UK. Many high-wage economies see creativity as a means of adding value in the face of increasing competition. In more hierarchical cultures there is often an appreciation that organisations might be more creative if the culture could be somewhat more open. Is creativity linked to income and wealth levels? How far is creativity relevant to developing economies, as compared to the developed countries? Do you think creative solutions can be applied for bigger problems that prevail in the developing countries? Creativity can be applied at any level from very large to very small issues and in any country. As I write, scientists all over the world are advancing new technologies to help alleviate climate change and micro-credit unions finance mini-creative ventures for very poor would-be entrepreneurs. In my work in India, Malaysia and China I have found managers as open to the idea that they need ways of opening up and pushing more responsibility down as in the West, though the form this may take can differ. I also use similar approaches advising and facilitating government officials and NGOs attempting to address large-scale issues such as corruption, for example, and when helping companies make technological breakthroughs. The key here is to free up thinking to help people reach new and better way of doing things. Are there negative states of creativity? What are the differences between creativity of nature and nurtured creativity? Should education be so geared to ensure the development of creativity? Creativity is generally defined as something that is new and apt, so inherent in the definition is the notion that the creative idea or product is not any old worthless invention but something that offers quality and answers a need. At the same time, it is no accident that Shiva is the God of creativity and destruction embodied, as one usually has to destroy something to create something new. There are win-win situations where all parties benefit from a new idea, approach or agreement; but often bringing in the new advantages may involve extra work or disadvantaging others. Shifts to greater creativity in organisations, for example, often entail middle managers giving up some of their power. Many organisations have found about 10 per cent of their managers are unable to adapt to the new ways of working. Can there be a tussle between staying the course with a sustainable idea and trying out a creative idea, as for example with product launches? Can dynamism in creativity lead to negative returns at times? Generally, to make way for something new something else has to be destroyed. We see this with new products and processes all the time; the ice selling industry lost out when home refrigerators came in, film gives way to video, analogue to digital TV. There is generally a conservative tendency in organisations and a preference for sticking with the status quo. Any creative endeavour is going to involve something new; it takes persistence and often a champion or sponsor to steer new ideas through an organisation. Historically, companies that stick with what they are good at without creatively adapting to circumstances tend to fare badly in the long-term. Socialisation, externalisation, internalisation and combination — which of these knowledge conversion modes has the highest impact on creativity? There are many different ways of being creative and different people favour different routes. For example, different people may use very different processes to get to the same creative idea, some people are more comfortable with analytical techniques like checklists and matrices, other warm to the fun involved in lateral thinking like imagining how your hero/heroine (whether Gandhi, Superman or Tata) would tackle the issue, others prefer more intuitive approaches such as visualisation. Socialisation, externalisation, internalisation and combination modes of knowledge creation can all have their place at different stages of the creative process. Does luck play a role in creativity, especially in the commercial success of the product? Luck plays a role in many situations including creative ones. However, experience and good judgment are also critical. Generally, in organisations, good timing owes as much to the latter two as the former. On creativity versus type of work, genders, age, and technology. There is scope for creative action in professional, craft, farm and organisational work. The degree of creativity that is appropriate varies according to the situation. Research scientists have a lot of scope for being creative. In contrast most of us are happy that an aeroplane pilot sticks to some standard procedures for checking that the plane is in a good condition to fly. Both sexes are creative. All ages can be creative though the peak age for important breakthrough varies by domain; in mathematics many breakthroughs are made by the rather young, many writers on the other hand have creative success late in life. The creative process also varies by sector. Many artists and poets choose to work alone, whereas many innovative technological breakthroughs involve a group of people with different skills combining their talents. The opportunity for creative action is satisfying to the people involved as they are able to contribute something meaningful. Satisfaction is related to a number of factors including temperament and the degree to which one is socially supported. A key factor is control. On the whole, people who have more control of their lives, including their work, tend to report themselves as being more satisfied than those with less control. Temperament also plays a big part in satisfaction. In the West, extroversion is associated with greater happiness. It would be interesting to see if in a culture such as India, where surrender is more readily accepted as a route to happiness, a different pattern emerged.

How do I cancel my La Fitness Pro Results Body of Change personal training contract? To cancel your La Fitness Pro Results personal training simply write a letter to the Better Business Bureau, and wait. Having an attorney send a letter to their corporate office also helps. These are almost always guaranteed to work if your problems are legitimately concerning (and referencing) trainer no shows, being switched trainers numerous time, harassment, stolen sessions, or misrepresentation at the point of sale (the time of signing up), such as being told you can cancel your contract at any time with no penalty or not being told effectively and directly that your contract will automatically convert to a month to month program upon completion, both of which I'll discuss next. Very often La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you by telling you that you may cancel your personal training contract at any time with no penalty, which is completely false, (in some states) such cancellation usually requires a buy-out fee/penalty of 50% of the remaining balance and can total many hundreds of dollars. Some are in excess of a thousand. Also La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you about your contract automatically renewing. One of their 'gimmicks' in this regard is to use 'fast talk' and refer to this as your "Rate for Life Guarantee", when in effect all of their personal training contracts are set to automatically renew after their initial term (month to month). In April 2008 (or approximate to that time) La Fitness mysteriously cancelled numerous contracts (and stopped billing) those which had entered automatic renewal, in which members checking and credit cards accounts were being billed for MANY months after their initial term, some for over a year, with payments ranging $100-$400 monthly. These contracts (payments/drafts) were mysteriously cancelled yet to my knowledge none of the funds were ever returned to the clients. This was done company wide, and was not mentioned to upper management or club management. This was a onetime thing. They did not cancel all auto-new contracts. It appears they only cancelled those who had been in auto renew for quite some time, as they let many in auto-renew at that time continue, and they still continue to automatically renew contracts on a daily basis. It may also be possible they've decided to let all contracts auto-renew, yet set a pre-determined amount of time they would allow such contracts to continue to be billed (for example an additional 12 months), then cancel future drafts at such a pre-set time. It was suggested to the owners of the company and their corporate brass to provide a list of ALL clients not using their personal training. This was suggested as a way of increasing customer service. This was rejected. Why? They feared that if 'non using clients' (but who were still being billed/drafted) were contacted, they would immediately become aware they were still being drafted for a contract they thought was completed and not using, resulting in people contacting their banks in order to stop electronic billing, and this could cost the company millions! As a result, the only list provide to the club is a much shorter (safe) list of members whose accounts were active recently, but who have not used their personal training in the past 30 days. Anyone outside of that time frame is not put on that list due to the reasons I just explained. I've been told directly by the owner and "La Fitness Top Brass" their fear is having an attorney/attorney general shut down their ability to auto-renew contracts which would cost the company millions of dollars yearly. Also their clients have had thousands upon thousands of sessions stolen by trainers, resulting in trainers fraudulently getting paid at the loss of sessions to the clients, very often with neither the client nor La Fitness even being made aware, and sessions never being restored. La Fitness is aware of the loopholes which allow their clients sessions to be stolen, but have done little to correct the problem due to cost and inconvenience. Such solutions could include a finger print system, or a signature verification system, or simply locking down accounts which are not being used. Also all La Fitness gym members need to be made aware that their billing information (while safely hidden) has the potential to used by the personal training department to bill ongoing services for personal training without the main members knowledge/authorized signature. This has also happened numerous times, to unwitting spouses and often by underage children, using their parents accounts even with the sales reps knowledge the child is underage and doesn’t have their parents approval. Sales reps have also fraudulently and intentionally charged accounts of members for personal training services without the members’ knowledge. If you have had problems in these areas above, you may choose to contact an attorney, the Better Business Bureau and your State Attorney Gener
