Yes, I can think of four very quickly. Thanks for your help.... I just want some that doesn't come to my head right away. My teacher wants us to discover debates that we didn't know were happening. Why is the general public in the United States ignorant of social and political issues of Latin America? Much of what one hears on the news in the United States is what occurs in Iraq and Israel; yet, seldom does the general population in the United States hear of what happens within Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Equador, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, etc. What's more, our school systems in the United States rarely teach the basic social and geographic fundamentals of these numerous countries. So why is so little news reported on what occurs within the entire western hemisphere?
Do you think america is a center-right country? I wan't to start off by saying i'm a libertarian and voted for nader (just wanted to let you know that!) Now on to my question. In my opinion on economic issues america is conservative. Every american hates it when the government foolishly spends money. (For example on a war that can't be won!) But on social issues I think america is left-wing. We wan't abortions to be legal, though we may not agree with them personally (honestly I don't care about an unborn baby at all, there are too many people on this planet already!). People wan't the government to fight global warming and take care of their planet. People want drugs to be decriminalized (its thanks to these stupid mothers who think drugs are going to corrupt their kids, even tho they are probley upstairs doing meth) People wan't the war in iraq to end. And people want free trade to end. And best of all, people want government to stop telling us what we can and can't do in our own lives. Weather its gay marriage or watching porn, people just want the government to get a life! barr did not represent my libertarian views. He is whats known as a lino
How can we eliminate the madness of social issues? Social issues are little more than divisive arguments on trivial issues. Does is strongly matter if gays cannot marry, guns be unlimited, affirmative action abolished and similar events happen? Because we focus on such silly issues, we are ruining and undermining the real debate on fiscal and foreign issues. Both pertain to vital success and strength. Both left and right should ignore social issues. I think, we ought to compromise such as with the Compromise of 1850. We need to allow some concessions on the moral direction of our country to the liberals and some to the conservatives. Social issues are the focus of propositions, debates and other expression. We should ban anyone of ever speaking of a social issue again, for the debate will not stop otherwise. America is such an annoying nation and perhaps worthy of mocking because of how arrogant we are and how are heads are at gays when it should be on the economy. If you see a social activist for either side, throw them in a river. We Americans should solve greater problems because our budgets and money are used towards such trivial nonsense. Who wants to take social issues out of American debate? Can we shift our focus to the wars fought, eliminating poverty, and having a well-functioning nation?
In America, since "race" isn't a big deal anymore, will religious conflicts come into play soon? Since "race" is going away, especially with imminent commercialized genetic engineering so that people can just choose skin / eye iris / hair pigmentation for their kids, will religious conflicts, especially with the rise of atheism, be a major social issue in America in the coming decades?
I need a social issue to write about...? I have to write about a [current] social issue in America. I have to make an outline that includes the conflict and a possible solution to the problem. Any ideas? I'm brain dead :\. [Not smoking bans... I just did a paper about them] Thanks! <3.
Conservatives: Where are the true fiscal AND social conservatives in america today? Why don't they have the balls to speak up against abortion and other social issues that this party was founded on? Besides Sarah Palin. thank you mega million, i didn't know that. i thought i saw a lump in her pants.
what will make a good persuasive arugment? For my Comp 1 class we have to write a persuasive arugment defending your position on a specific issue( a major social issue ) under discourse. Any ideas what social issue in America under discourse i should write about?
What major should I chose to get into social entrepreneurship? I am considering my options on what major I should chose. I am currently about to enter a community college, aiming at getting my AA then transferring to a four year college, then graduate school. During high school I privately studied philosophy, sociology, psychology, business entrepreneurship and economics. Overall my interest was analyzing the individual, society, and ultimately how they could better be joined. I always tried to stimulate my classes by encouraging them to give their input on various social issues and individual choices. Currently, which obviously will probably change as I mature, I have no intention of holding a selected career for extended periods of time. I want to be a social entrepreneur at its very core, by impacting change through entrepreneurial methods. College is to enhance my skills and life as a whole, not for the benefit of some company or as security so I can work forty years before retiring. I want to have the flexibility to pursue my own interests, which may be with non-profits, NGOs, companies, etc. I'm not as interested in race issues and poverty in America as many Sociology students seem to be. I do not want to have to take a majority of classes that don't relate to what I want to do. I am more interested in globalization, economics of foreign countries (or local not sure yet), politics, etc. If anyone has read The Drifters by James A. Michener, the narrator (forgot the name) is exactly the type of thing I would love to do. So I was thinking Sociology with a minor in Economics might be good, or vice verse. Although majoring in Economics in my opinion would get tedious very quickly. I love Philosophy but I do not see it as a wise career path so I will have to continue studying it on my own. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also I realize that to get into a position where you actually make the slightest of difference takes time and dedication. I'm asking how I can get my foot into the door of social change. I just don't want to chose a degree where ten years down the road I regret it because I found that I'm not really qualified to work with certain organizations, businesses etc.
Is social conservatism in America on the decline? Socially conservative values and issues seem to have very little priority in the GOP these days. And the leading candidate seems fairly liberal on all of the 'hot button' issues. Is social conservatism dying out in America?
Does being a hipster mean, that you are involved in enviromental and social issues too? I'm trying to write an article about how this culture works in America [but there is an ocean between us, so better ask it]. The other question is, if there is something pejorative about calling someone a hipster, or it is used by people for descriing themselves? And the final one: how widespread it is between, say, people in their early '20-s?
Why do social issues, like gay marriage, abortion play such a big role in US politics? and even with all that happend, the war,the attacks on America will they, those issues, in 2008 decide the elections again?
What is an example of a social justice issue commonly occurring in hometowns in America? More specifically in Illinois. I need to research and then write a paper on something going on locally and I really can't think of anything.
Do you think religion conflicts with social issues? Not completely, but to most extent. Such as the reason why America was built, Hitler, Sudan, etc. Some oppressed people LGBT. Sorry can't think much more I need to educate myself more in history. And excuse me for spelling too. ;] I'm happy that most people are proud of their religion, but they should keep it to themselves rather than using it against others. So my question is basically, lend me some feedback. Ok, thanks bye!
Will "social issues" of the neocon right take a back seat to REAL challenges facing America in the '08 race? Terrorism, social spending in medicare and social security, spiraling out of control helth care and higher education spending, to name, but a few... Neocon social issues are, abortion, smaller gov'mt, lower taxes, etc.
Due to economic and social issues today would it be possible to have a revolution in America? I'm talking about an overthrow of the government by the people (for the people). Obviously, we've been there before in this country, but it we were under the rule of another country at the time. What are the chances of us removing the existing governmental system and instituting a new government that truly holds the peoples best interests in mind (not the interests of the fat cat career politicians who have screwed this country up)? I am not condoning a take over, I'm just interested to hear how bad things would have to get in this country before people would consider a major coup such this. Should be interesting conversation anyway...
America, now center-left on economic/fiscal issues? There's little doubt that we're still (unfortunately) center-right on social issues. But do you think we're now center-left on fiscal issues? Why? Free trade has fallen out of favor here. A majority believe the government should do more, not less. Americans chose the candidate who promised higher taxes on some, lower for some, as opposed to the candidate who promised lower taxes for everybody. Contempt for corporate greed has never been higher in my lifetime.
SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT: what are ways that gay Americans are treated unfairly? besides the marriage thing. this is an essay im writing on social issues in America if you have any links that would be cool kuz this is a research essay so it's required to have newspaper, scholarly journal, book, and magazine articles
Why do people think that "liberal" has anything to do with WAR? Liberals - from my understanding, support the far left side of social issues in America... The way conservatives uphold the right. So, as far as WAR is concerned, why is it always such a party-line issue with both sides screaming "liberal" or "neocon"? Who started that spin?
What are some social issues relating to society? For example - "Should people be allowed to carry guns in america without a license?" Thank you!! Thanks for the answers so far but I mean more topical as in an actual topic that could be arguable. ( the example)
Have social & religious issues become too important in American Politics? I say we need to start worrying about Economic and foreign policy again. How people want to live in America is their business.
God's Warriors on CNN, Did anyone Notice? Did anyone noticed the warrior of Gods was just limited to Middle East conflict for Jews and Muslims and Social Issues in America? What about the God's Muslim Warriors acting (Read Killing) in: Spain, Russia, India, China, Malaysia, Bali, Java, Sumatra, Thailand? When will the western media get their head out of the Terrorism of middle east and see the fact that Fanatic Terrorists are killing in the name of Islam all over the globe. Most recently today in Southern India. over 50 Dead so far.
Why is it more acceptable to talk about political issues in social settings in France than in the U.S? For my French class I need to write why it is more acceptable to talk about political issues in France than in the U.S. Why would that be? I was thinking maybe something along the lines that there are many political parties in France compared to the U.S. and this might influence how strongly people are associated with a 'left' or 'right' party. Any suggestions and ideas as to why it is more socially acceptable to talk politics in France than in America would be great! Thanks.
Where will I be able to retrieve important info on Andean South America? I am researching Andean South America, and I must know about the Political, Economic, and Social issues in each of the countries in this region. Where (in a website or some kind of printed article) will I be able to access a lot of this information? It would be a great help if someone can answer this for me. Thank you very much.
What are some German culture differences from the US? I am working on a college paper about the culture of Germany. I would love as many stories or resources about major culture differences. Are they very expressive? Do they drink to get drunk like most Americans? How is the family system viewed? How important is education? Is higher education free? Is something specific served with every meal? How open to strangers are they? How is the relationship between the different states? How are social taboo issue in America seen, i.e. homosexuality, abortions, women leadership, racism? I would love to have email contact with someone there up until my visit to Heidelburg in May...any takers??? :)
How do you think former Miss California feels about being replaced by an anti-gun "Tomboy"? Born in Medford and raised on a farm in Phoenix, Oregon, Tami Farrell was considered by many to be a tomboy. As the first girl to play on an all-boys baseball team, she had a difficult time fitting in. She silenced her detractors with a game-winning grand slam in the final game of the season. Ten months later, she was crowned MISS TEEN USA 2003. Her life changed forever. Throughout her year-long reign, Tami helped raise over twenty-one million dollars for charities – a new Miss Teen record. As a youth advocate to such organizations as PAX: Real Solutions to Gun Violence and SHiNE (Seeking Harmony in Neighborhoods Everyday), and the “What’s Your Anti-Drug?” Campaign, Tami helped raise awareness of prevailing social issues in America. She also became the national teen spokesperson for M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).
Comic readers are you Conservative or liberal? or maybe somewhere in between. I'm liberal and I was talking to some of my more Conservative friends awhile back about the X-men and of course my friends are not so Conservative that they hate gay people or any other kind of minority but it hit me that as far as comics go X-men is one of the more popular books and pretty much since its creation X-men has been a reflection of social issues in America (Prop X as a mirror to Prop 8 is the most recent example). So this got me wondering what is the Political make up of my fellow comic book readers. All i ask is that your answer respects the other side of the political spectrum... so no "Obama is the anti Christ" or "Republicans are Nazis"
Why are European countries liberal in many cases yet conservative and much stricter than the US on immigration? Italians, French, Spaniards and many European nations are known to be very liberal in social issues such as gay marriage etc, yet compared to America on immigration issues, they are very conservative with nations locking up illegal immigrants and kinda brutal with them, such as cases in Italy and France. Why is this the case?
USA, backwards in regard to social issues? I've been to America numerous times and, lovely as it is, it strikes me that there is a lot of backwardness regarding social issues. All the feminist/misandrist bickering on here is old news in Europe. There is a BIG difference between the average Swedish/German/Dutch man and his American counterpart. I'm sure zealotry, misinformation and social selfishness is responsible. Consider this best answer regarding health care: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhvL6S1Ks49wj4Y4Otsq5jtIzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20080220152106AAWrrhQ Purely self-centred. She might have good health care, but more people don't. Sweden in comparison is a high tax/spend economy, but a situation like their life expectancy, infant mortality, mental health states and social cohesion is, but a dream for America. What's wrong? I stand by the example of Sweden. It is smaller, but that's nothing, it's still a complex society. One factor of it's cohesion might be the ethnic similarity of its citizens, but I can't say for sure. Jonmcn - You are a ridiculous fanatic. Go and play.
What are you thought, interesting article, some young religious people placing social issues over sexuality? What are you thought, interesting article, some young religious people placing social issues over sexuality? Is this the beginning of a change in America's religious discourse against Gay's? Glodbal media is influancing some young relgious people by wanting them to unite people instead of segregating them. I see the beginning of something beautiful, a America where the religious spend less time opposing equal rights for gay people and spending more time focusing on social justice for all people. What are your thoughts? Kudos to the new wave of young religious people. http://www.gay.com/news/article.html?col... I posted this in the LGBT section as well, just wanted thoughts from the religious section as well. Thanks.
when and why did racism start in America? i'm writing a descriptive essay on social issues and the topic chosen, was racism. any information can be helpful. thank you!
If the right is split in two would this make a socialist America more likely? If their were a third party (more committed to conservatism) to emerge, being disgruntled with the GOP, would the split vote on the right not ensure the left a lock on power in Washington? Newt Gingrich says it is possible that a third party may emerge if the GOP were to abandon or even soften its policy on social issues.
AMERICA IS BECOMING A THEOCRACY - Where is the seperation line of Church and State? The Christian right Wing is making and altering laws to make America slowly fall towards theocracy behind everyone's backs. I am pro abortion/choice and for the most part, I think Gay's should be allowed to marry. Why is it that these damned right wing christians CAN'T COME UP WITH ANY INTELLIGENT ARGUMENTS against social issues except to mention what is said in the bible? If Gay people want to have that little piece of paper saying they are happily married and gay - why can't they? If a woman doesn't want to have her baby why should she be forced to? The damned Neocons out there think THEY have a handle on the truth just because they learned to read the Bible...OOOOOH WOW The founding fathers of America made it a point to push for the seperation of church and state so America wouldn't end up being another oppressive theocracy. Now these stupid rights are trying to destroy the constitution and change all that. Can't anyone argue based on science or logic?
anyone over the age of 20 and under 39 can you answer my questions please.? These are the questions I am doing a developmental research project and cannot find anyone of that age. These are the questions: If you want to post them on here fine, if you dont i understand just email the questions and post something and i will give you the points. ●What has been your best accomplishment? ●What is your best memory? ●What is your worst memory? ●What is your biggest goal that you would like to accomplish in the next five years? ●How similar would you say you are to your parents? ●What is the most important social issue/problem America faces today? ●What is your greatest fear? ●What are your thoughts on children? Do you plan to have them later on in life? ● If you could describe marriage in one word what would it be and why? ●How much influence do you think peer pressure/ “co-worker” pressure has on the choices you make?
When we argue about "liberals" and "conservatives," should we be specifying if we mean "social" or "fiscal"? There seems to be a lot of confusion here. Tea party conservatives are mad about fiscal issues, but might not care if gay people want to marry. Evangelicals can't stop talking about abortion but forget we're in an economic crisis. As a liberal, I understand fighting about how America uses or loses it's money. The part that angers me is the social issues because I view much of what conservatives say about that as bigotry.
what is Obama doing about social issues? I am a african born in america. Believe me when i say that i was happy that a Caucasian was elected. But from what i see he might as well be bush or reagan. in my opinion he is upholding the racists' theories about black people. He is cow towing and shuffling to the white racist regime. It is a fact that police brutality and corruption in the court is totally out of control. The message being sent to cowards is all one has to do to beat, maim, and murder people is become a police officer. I am wondering why uncle obama is ignoring these very relevant issues? I am not saying that black people in general are not responsible for there actions, what i am saying is that black people in general are hated, feared, and despised in america. My guess is things will remain the same until the american people realize that money is the god of america. we live in a world where a animal has more rights than a human. dog has become a god. will we ever wake up and realize that it is not a white vs. black but a rich vs. poor. cowards on patrol are here to protect the rich and serve the poor. what can we do as working people to get the message that enough is enough. I don't know about any one else but i am nervous about the potential beat-down or murder of me or my family by the C.O.P why are we waiting so long to try and change this? just as an added thought. SOME police may go into the gang with a gung ho mentality for doing good. But once they are in they either conform to the lies and brutality or quit. MOST get a taste of power and start gang banging harder than a street thug. to the nay sayers i unfortunately can't wait till you or someone in your family is beaten down, murdered, or lied about in a court.then you will finally wake up unless your an ignorant fool and i hope thats not true???
Can this be classified as a social issue? I'm doing a project for AP Govt and I have to take a survey about a social issue. I really wanted to ask people what kind of 90s video game console they had, but is that a social issue? One of my friends are asking if people were born in America, and if not where? If mine isn't a social issue, what can I ask instead that revolves around the who 90s game console theme?
What makes people so sure what is right and wrong about today's controversial social issues? Some would say, "well the inerrant word of God." But seems to me the "word of God' can be interpreted any which way. In 1840s America, the Southern Baptist Convention was created out of support for slavery. Prior to the modern era, many conservative preachers opposed equal rights for women because they said it was "anti-Biblical." The christian conservative Bob Jones University had anti-interracial dating rules up to the year 2000. They, along with many christians of the past, interpreted the Bible into opposing interracial marriage. So lots of people in the past have used the Bible to support their bigot beliefs. People today are doing the same thing with gays and gay marriage. They are absolutely sure the Bible is against it, just like the Southern Baptist Church was absolutely sure the Bible condoned slavery. HERE IS MY ANSWER TO MY QUESTION: I prefer to let people make their own social decisions as long as it doesn't interfere with the freedoms of others. If you believe there is a God, and you believe a certain group of people are acting against God and hurting themselves, just leave them to it. If you believe in hell and hell is real, these people will burn in hell. Mind your own business or at the very least don't FORCE your morality on others through government action. Didn't the christian God give people freedom of will?
what do you think about Private Funding or FICA or social security? im asking beacuase im doing a 6 paragraph essay on the subject. we are suposse to pick a topic about an american issue. and we can either be For or Againist the topic. and on this topic i chose to support it. which means im for private funding. kinda lame topic but its a very good issue in america. so help me out please.
What's a good art piece expressing social or political issues in today's culture? Examples of possible topics include economies of social classes, consumerism, race and gender issues, environment, fashion, music etc. It can be abstract or representational. It should look something along the lines like this, but for today's culture in America. http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/high/images/Ken-Montage1.jpg It'd be helpful if the pictures were in black and white or art pieces, and if you could provide links.
What are some social issues that most Miss America contestantts would avoid? Issues might be controversial or even contrary to values of the pageant.
What is an important social issue facing America? What is it happening, what can we do to prevent it? My friend said it's immigration and he believes we should conquer mexico since they want to be part of us.
Has America ever tried to find a consensus on the social issues, workable for both sides so they are out of? the way?Is the water really too deep between Democrats and Republicans on these issues or do politicians have an interest to make it look that way?
What is a Social Problem in America? What are some social problems in America? Social problems that were once seen as a "problem," but have now become normalized within popular culture? OR A problem that has "emerged" and been given more coverage over time (in other words, increasingly seen as a "problem") How has it changed over time? How long has the problem been around and how do we know? When did the issue become identified as a problem? How do cultural norms play a role? What are ways in which changing public attitudes on an issue are a result of sociological factors? Please give me your detailed prespective of a social problem of your choice using the above questions. It would be greatly appreciated.
How many of you feel strongly about the issues? What is your view of the major political (and social) issues facing America? 1. Abortion 2. Gay "Marriage" 3. The Judiciary 4. The Wire-tapping "scandal" 5. Kings Funeral http://csconservative.tripod.com/ #3 is referring to the debate of "liberal" or "Conservative" court. In other words, do we have an activist court?
Who is responsible for Social decay in America, is it a States rights issue with each State claiming ownership? Coming Soon to a Neighborhood near you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6WKMNmFsxM It would be nice to blame the rich for their avariciousness and lack of concern. But the main thing is to blame someone.
What sport has had the largest social impact in America? Is it baseball, with Jackie Robinson, the steroid issues, (God forgive me for putting the two in the same sentence), and everything else? Boxing, with fights that have served as an almost allegory for the world's political climate? What do you think?
Are America's social problems, a direct result of our greed and indifference to our fellow man? We Americans seem to complain about the same un-resolved issues every time a presidential election comes around.
Question for history buffs, how did America answer the question whose responsibility is it? How did America answer the question whose responsibility is it to provide Americans with a decent existence? Include details about the Progressive Era, progressive presidents, prosperity, intolerance, the depression, current social issues that relate, and other topics. Include evidence on how America's answer to the question changed over time. Essay question for my semester exam, thanks for any help you guys have to offer!
Was Prop 8 the tipping point for Social Unrest in America, ie Civil War II? Who will be next How long until the demand for Muslim justice is heard Will Rednecks also want their positions on pertinent issues voiced. What about fat lazy couch potatoes. Will they demand the right to no voice no activity.
Would you say that conservatives and liberals are looking for America's prosperity? I'm writing a paper where I compare and contrast liberals and conservatives. Here is my thesis statement . . . Although liberals and conservatives differ greatly on views of the size and role of government, social issues, and the interpretation of the constitution, both parties trying to reach one goal; the prosperity of America. I hate the last part (prosperity part) what else can go there? How are their goals similar?
How Did Bank of America Get My Social Seucrity Number? Bank of America first contacted me regarding an unpaid credit card account. The account holder has the same name as mine but the address is in Jackson, Florida. I live in Chicago. I disputed that it was not my account. BoA insists it is mine. I asked for a copy of credit card application but they refused to provide me. Following advices from the Yahoo Answer, I asked BoA if the account holder used my social security number to open the account. BoA stated that my social security number is "associated" with the account and read the number over the phone. It was my social security number. I was freaking out that my ID is stolen. I looked up the address of the account on the Duval County (Jacksonville is in Duval County) property appraiser website to find out the owner of the house. I used a paid white page serive to find the phone number. Maria, the owner of the house, was very kind on the phone and informed that there was a person with same name as mine used to rent her house a while ago. But the person was a woman (I am a man). She was a visiting professional at Univerisity of North Florida. Maria said she was good a tenant but did not have social security number when she was applying for rental. I went to a local social security office to learn that they do not issue social security number to people on visiting visas. I never had any account with BoA. Where could BoA get my social security number. I demanded to BoA for answer: by phone and mail. NO RESPONSE except to say that "after through investigation, we conlude that it is your account..." I am writing another letter to BoA. Anyone know how and where BoA could get my social security number??? How could this kind of things happen????
Will MTV's Real World ever go back to exploring social issues or is it completely devolved into a soap opera? There was a time when MTV's Real World sort of explored social issues like AIDS, abortion, racism, etc. Now it's devolved into a who's sleeping with who and who wants to fight and let's get into the hot tub, blah blah. And is this a reflection of what's important to America since this is where the show went (as a response to its audience)?
Black social movements in america? How did black social movements in America address or fail to address issues faced by blacks in the north and south? For example, the civil rights movement or any others you can think of
Platforms that a miss america candidate wouldn't do? what social issue/platforms would the miss america candidates not do.
Why do social conservatives feel they it is they have to impose their agenda on the rest of America? 1 - not everyone is a Christian in the United States. #2 - even if they were - not everyone holds the same exact positions on issues esp. on those that don't have a black-white answer #3 - They do this on issues of reproductive rights, gay marriage, the environment (like thinking global warming is the harbinger of the 2nd coming of Christ), science, stem cell research, etc.
Is USA becoming so sharply divided on all issues that civil war in america may be looming in our future? I am astounded with the utter reversal of so many american values, like before we was a brave country that was known to the bad asses as one they admired for its integrity and they did not desire a fight with. Now we are despised as cowards with pre-emptive strike speaches trying to threaten other nations and go about like unchristian busy bodies telling everyone how they have to deal contracts for oil and securities with our industry. We are like a bad player and if we get to many enemies we shall have serious troubles when the underdogs arise with new sources of assistance since it is not by violence against Iraq households we shall make any freindship or deal any culture exchange with a whole lot of people all over this world. We are stupid, here is america our home and it is good, why are we about war everywhere and not healing our own social conflicts and bringing peace into our own lands.
Isn't it absurd that Miss America lost her crown due to her honest responce to that stupid question? So now we will or wont receive the things that are earned based on how we feel about social issues.I can see some issues but something as stupid as this one.
